it’s so frustrating to see how little people are willing to do for the environment — so many people here at Rice openly show a disregard for resource usage: lights are left on constantly, water is used freely, air conditioning is always used as often and as much as possible… And the fact that people aren’t even open to the idea of turning their lights off when they leave the room is even worse. I haven’t met a single person so far that hasn’t rolled their eyes at me or pretended that I’m stupid or making a big deal out of “that whole environment thing” when I’ve given small suggestions.
And I’m not even doing it for me. I’m not asking people to do it because I get some odd sort of pleasure from this! I’m doing it so my kids have a better quality of life, and it’s really important for me that that happens.
